Quickfire Questions

We asked David some quickfire questions:

Born: Sutton

Age: 55

Education: State secondary school in Teddington and Kingston FE college, then politics, philosophy & economics at Oxford University

Married: 23 years, to Andrea

"We got to know each other when I was a Liberal Democrat councillor in Kingston. I was seeing if the borough could host refugees from Yugoslavia's civil war and Andrea had gone to Dubrovnik with Epsom's churches to see how they could help."

Children: Two. Daniel is 20 and at university and Nathan is 17 and studying for his A-levels.

Career: 30 years in international news broadcasting as a producer and reporter.

Volunteering: I'm a trustee of the Surrey-based charity, Man & Boy which brings dads and their lads together around fun-based activities, to help develop deeper relationships. I also served as a director of disaster relief and development charity, Tearfund.

TV: It's been a great year for sport and I love sitting with the family watching all of it - the football, Ashes and rugby too.

Music: Bartok, Rach, Tallis, Taverner.

Albums: Bless the Weather and Solid Air by John Martyn, who played at the Kingston Folk Barge.

Books: History for non-fiction - anything by Sir Anthony Beevor. The novels of Robert Harris are always rewarding.

Meal: Being half-Italian, I love anything home cooked. And there's nothing better than starting from scratch with any fresh ingredients to hand.

Odd fact about you: I am the founder of Romania's biggest youth festival. In December 1989 during the Revolution, I suggested to a group of students they hold an annual free summer university, combined with music, to keep developing ideas. 30 years later, 80,000 young people attended the Tusvanyos festival this summer.

Sum up your life: From growing up in Hampton until today, I have always wanted to make the world around me a better place. So I like serving others and campaigning too. My Christian faith is the backdrop to everything I do.
